As the writer of Rolling Again, I wanted to capture that magical moment when winter finally loosens its grip and the world feels new again — especially through a child’s eyes.
This summer poem for kids celebrates the return of sunshine, daisy chains, cartwheels, and carefree play in the park. It’s about reconnecting with nature, imagination, and those joyful rituals we all race back to as soon as summer calls. I hope it brings a smile, a spark, or even inspires a handstand or two!

Whether you're a parent, teacher, or young reader yourself, I invite you to roll, rhyme, and dream your way into summer with me.

Rolling Again
After lingering frosts
have all been scared off
by armies of marching daffodils
the local park
shrugs off her winter coat of dark
sings a warm refrain
and changes back into her summer dress
all pink and blue
gold and dappled green
she beckons me back
with the sun held aloft
to pick up
where we both left off …
to handstand, cartwheel, sideways roll
to score another a hundred goals
to pluck a daisy with my toes
to climb the tree that no one knows
to plant a smile that grows and grows
oh yes
with swifts and swallows
back in skies
with frogs and toads
and butterflies
with diamond streams
back in my eyes
we’re rolling again
